Naturopathic Care for Fatigue & Low Energy in Fargo, ND
Feeling tired all the time is one of the most common reasons people come to see us, and one of the most frustrating. Maybe you sleep through the night and still wake up exhausted. Maybe you need coffee to get through the morning and hit a wall by mid-afternoon. Or maybe you've been told your labs are "normal," but you know you don't feel like yourself.
At Fargo Naturopathic, we take your fatigue seriously. Low energy is a symptom, not a diagnosis, and it usually has more than one contributor. Our naturopathic doctors take the time to look at the whole picture (your hormones, thyroid, digestion, nutrition, sleep, stress, and history) so we can work toward the why behind your exhaustion, not just cover it up.
Symptoms We See
Fatigue rarely shows up alone. Patients often tell us about:
• Waking up unrefreshed, even after a full night's sleep
• An afternoon energy crash or relying on caffeine and sugar to keep going
• Brain fog, poor focus, or forgetfulness
• Feeling "wired but tired," or trouble falling or staying asleep
• Low motivation, low mood, or irritability
• Feeling cold, dry skin, or thinning hair
• Bloating, constipation, or other digestive changes
• Weight changes or trouble losing weight
• Exhaustion that gets worse around your cycle, after having a baby, or during perimenopause
• Lingering fatigue after an illness or a long stretch of stress
If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone, and it's worth looking into.
Our Root-Cause Approach
Everyone's fatigue has its own story, so there's no one-size-fits-all protocol here. Common areas we explore include:
• Thyroid function. An underactive thyroid or Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a well-known cause of fatigue.
• Hormone balance. Shifts in estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and cortisol can affect energy, sleep, and mood.
• Blood sugar and metabolic health. Swings in blood sugar can leave you drained and craving quick energy.
• Nutrient status. Low iron, B12, vitamin D, or other nutrients can contribute to tiredness, especially in our long North Dakota winters.
• Digestive health. If your gut isn't digesting and absorbing well, your body may not be getting what it needs.
• Stress, sleep, and lifestyle. Chronic stress, poor sleep, and burnout add up over time.
• Chronic illness and inflammation. Some patients have fatigue linked to autoimmune conditions, past infections, or environmental exposures.
Based on what we find, your plan may include nutrition and lifestyle changes, targeted supplements, herbal medicine, homeopathy, hands-on therapies, and, when appropriate, prescription options from Dr. Threasa Andrys, all tailored to you. Our providers bring different strengths to fatigue care. Dr. Threasa Andrys, ND focuses on thyroid and hormone-related fatigue, including postpartum fatigue. Dr. Andrea Hillstad, ND works with chronic fatigue, chronic viral infections, and mold-related concerns. Dr. Kristen Couture, ND, CNS, LDN brings advanced training in nutrition and metabolic health.

Fatigue can also be a sign of conditions that need conventional medical care, such as anemia, sleep apnea, depression, heart problems, or diabetes. If we see signs of something like this, we'll tell you plainly and refer you to the right specialist or your primary care provider. Our goal is to work alongside your other care, not replace it.
Testing We May Use
Testing is individualized. We only recommend what's likely to be useful for you. Depending on your history, this may include:
• Blood work such as a complete thyroid panel, iron and ferritin, B12, vitamin D, blood sugar markers, and inflammation markers, ordered through Fullscript for convenient, often discounted pricing.
• Hormone testing to look at sex hormones and cortisol patterns through the day.
• Hair tissue mineral analysis by Analytical Research Labs, to look at mineral patterns.
• InBody 580 body composition scan ($65, done in our office with Bree Pierce, RN), a baseline for muscle mass, body fat, and water balance.
• QEST4 bioenergetic scan, an informational tool some patients choose to add. It does not diagnose disease and is always considered alongside your history and conventional testing.
We'll go over your results with you in plain language, so you understand what they mean and why your plan looks the way it does.
What to Expect at Your First Visit
Your first appointment is a 60–75 minute New Patient Visit in our calm Fargo office (complimentary herbal tea included). We'll ask about your energy, sleep, diet, digestion, stress, cycle or hormone history, medications, and what “feeling well” means to you. We'll do a physical assessment, review any recent labs you bring, and talk through which tests (if any) make sense.
From there, we'll create a personalized starting plan with practical steps you can begin right away. Follow-up visits (45 minutes) let us review results, see how you're responding, and adjust as we go. Improving energy is often gradual, and we'll be with you along the way.
Frequently Asked Questions
My doctor said my labs are normal. Can you still help?
Often, yes. Standard screening labs may not include everything that can affect energy, such as a full thyroid panel, ferritin, or hormone patterns. We'll review what you've already had done, look at the bigger picture of your symptoms and lifestyle, and decide together whether more testing would be useful.
What causes constant tiredness?
There's usually more than one contributor. Common ones include thyroid problems, hormone shifts, low iron or other nutrients, blood sugar imbalance, poor sleep, chronic stress, digestive issues, and chronic illness. Finding your specific combination is the goal of your first visits.
Do you work with chronic fatigue or long-lasting post-illness fatigue?
Yes. Our providers see patients with long-standing fatigue, including fatigue that lingers after an illness. These cases are complex, so we take a careful, step-by-step approach and coordinate with your other providers when needed.
Do you take insurance?
We don't bill insurance directly. We can provide the information you need to submit appointments and labs to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
Can I keep seeing my regular doctor?
Absolutely, and we encourage it. When appropriate, Dr. Threasa Andrys can prescribe medication, and we're happy to coordinate with your primary care provider and any specialists so your care works together instead of in separate pieces. More answers are on our FAQs.
